I drew this in the school parking lot while waiting for it to be time to go pick up The Boy.
Sometimes I get hung up on how simple things are so complex for him. Or how much parents of neurotypical kids take for granted. Just getting through the day without incident is the goal for The Boy. Sometimes he makes it, often he doesn't. It's kind of weird how weighty that simple question can be.
My day, thank you for asking, was pretty productive. I even started cleaning the attic and am seriously considering moving my studio there. Not immediately, of course. I have shows coming up and stuff to do, but maybe after July I'll give it more careful consideration. The pros and cons are pretty even at the moment. I think this is one of those things I need to sit with and see if it still sounds good in a few weeks. I may come to my senses, who knows.
The Boy is home sick from school so I'm home too, getting nothing done.

How do YOU spell it?
Cause seriously, this stuff keeps me up at night.

I'm happy to say I survived The Boy's vacation week. It's good to be reminded how hard that job is. How exhausting and demanding and important a job. My brain felt kind of wrung-out by the end. But we did have fun.
We made two trips to Boston. Once for Chinese New Year and once to go to the Children's Museum. (Never again will I do that on his break. It was a mad house. I feel like we were lucky to get through it alive.)Both times we consumed an unhealthy but delicious amount of sweet rice cakes which were in themselves worth the trip.
We also bought fancy fleece for the guinea pigs and made them new bedding, went to the pet store and wanted to get everything to have as a pet including the crickets they sell as food for your lizards. Before we got in the door The Boy announced, "If they have a golden retriever, I'm getting it." He's been fixated on getting a golden retriever for a while now. There's a boy on the bus with one and sometimes the dog will get onto the bus and come say hi to the kids. They get to take turns giving it dog biscuits, so it's a really exciting day if it's your turn to feed Dixie. Ever since this started The Boy has been bugging me to get a golden retriever. Sigh. He's going to name it Dixie2. He's got it all worked out.
I really do want another dog, but I've been thinking when it's time we'd get a rescue greyhound. I've wanted to do that for years but the time was never right (it's still not right, actually.) I haven't proposed the idea to The Boy yet but I'm not ever sure I could sell it to him, he's so smitten with Dixie. And if we didn't get a greyhound then we'd get whatever they have at the shelter and I'm not sure I've ever seen a golden there before. Maybe a golden-colored greyhound would do?
This is a drawing of Maggot Man. He lives on Maggot Island (which looks like a piece of rice, apparently) and has radioactive maggots for pets. That's what those dark specks are all around him, his maggot friends.
Maggot Man is a good guy, he saves people and stuff. Using maggots, I think. I'm not too clear on that part, but the maggots are good maggots, that much is certain.
Maggot Man rocks.
